Weekly Writing Challenge: Moved by Music

Music is powerful: it conjures memories, emotions, and people and things of the past. It’s not only a trigger, but an outlet to express who we are. For this challenge, pick one song and write about it — or use it as inspiration for a post. The track may be personally meaningful, or remind you of something, someone, or some event you can look back on. Or maybe you’re drawn to a song’s lyrics and want to use them as a springboard for a short piece of fiction. Or a poem. Or a free-write.

Gosh!  For a girl who loves music this is a tough one because I love all types of music.  The song that I chose is “Dream” by Priscilla Ahn.  This song hits home to me in so many ways…memories, emotions, and things in my past.  Every child dream of flying, and at that point it is an unachievable overwhelming experience which throws them into life. When you grow old, you also want to fly. But it is a different kind of flying…you are ready to leave the life that you dreamt of. No words can describe how beautiful and emotional this song is. Being in your own little world could be an escape from what was going on around and the flying of the highest swing/tree could symbolize wanting more and having ambition. It’s such a beautiful and simple song that it works on a few different levels.  I think that this song is all about growing up and figuring out who you’re going to be and what you really believe.
